NEIGHBORHOOD
CRIME ALERT!!
Fort Worth has been experiencing a series of burglaries with a unique method of operation on the south side of the city. Other cities in the Metroplex have also reported similar burglaries and it is very likely these incidents are being committed by the same actors. These incidents generally occur between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., Monday through Friday. Previously, victims reported that the suspects identified themselves as City of Fort Worth employees. The suspects apparently are using other aliases as well.
The first suspect knocks on the front door of a residence and states that he is doing work on an adjacent property (usually tree trimming, but also reasons like pouring cement, installing sprinkler system, etc). The suspect states that this work will affect the owner’s property in some way and states he needs the owner to join him in the back yard so he can explain exactly what will be affected. In almost every incident, the victim is an elderly female who is at home alone.
The second suspect (often identified as a female) then enters the house while the owner is outside and steals jewelry, watches, coins and/or money from the residence. In multiple reports, the first suspect receives a call while outside with the owner, so this might be a signal or means of communication between the two suspects.
It is unknown how the victims are targeted, but there appears to be a high level of planning and target selection in these incidents.
